In SCI, does dummy data needs to be written to the TDR?

Question:

For the serial communications interface (SCI), when performing serial reception using an external clock, does dummy data need to be written to the transmit data register (TDR)?

Answer:

If serial transmission operation is disabled by the transmit enable bit (SCR.TE), reception is possible even if dummy data is not written.
