What happens if voltage applied exceeds the reference voltage Vref?

Latest Updated:03/15/2012

Question:

What happens, if the voltage applied to the analog input pin exceeds the reference voltage Vref?

Answer:

The maximum voltage that can be applied to the analog input pin is Avcc (Avcc=Vcc). When the voltage from Vref to Avcc is applied to the analog input pin, the A/D conversion result will be "3FFh" with 10-bit resolution.
