Do packaging materials guard against static electricity?

Latest Updated:11/01/2005

Question:

Do packaging materials such as taping, trays, magazines, bags, etc. guard against static electricity?

Answer:

For plastic magazines, antistatic additive is applied to the surface.
For trays, we use electrically conductive trays (plastic material milled with carbon).
The bags we use are either aluminum laminate bags with static electricity diffusion or transparent plastic bags.
For our embossed taping products, we use static electricity diffusion carrier tapes and reels.

Surface electrical resistance of packaging materials
Renesas Electronics defines the surface electrical resistance of packing material described above as 1012 Ω/square . (This conforms to "Static electricity diffusion 105to 1012 Ω/square" as defined in ANSI/EIA541).
